New Josh Ritter Album

April 29, 2010 / Leave a Comment

Josh Ritter’s new album “So Runs the World Away” comes out May 4th.  I’m pretty sure he timed that for my birthday.  He has a great post on his struggle to write the songs – which can be found on NPR until the album is released.

And, he has some free songs on Daytrotter – a site worth checking out on its own.

I leave you with “Change of Time”, which you will find yourself singing at random moments:

FarmPorter

April 26, 2010 / Leave a Comment

I originally thought of FarmPorter for a summer grant, and then a summer project, but now that my summer is planned, I’m giving the idea up to whoever wants it.

There are a few aspects of the idea, and FarmPorter would probably be better if simplified to perform one of the following:

  • Home delivery of CSA shares
  • Fractional CSA share purchasing
  • Subsidized CSA shares to low-income communities
  • Handling excess crops through online sales/food bank donation
  • Marketing CSAs beyond farmers markets

Please see this .pdf for more information.

Roads that only exist in traffic reports

April 25, 2010 / 1 Comment

I’m convinced in order to justify having traffic reports every certain number of minutes, sometimes reporters have to fabricate traffic situations.  And to do this, fabricate roads.  The following is a list of suspected imaginary roads:

  • Dequindre
  • Mound
  • Crooks
  • Halsted
  • Livernois
  • Dixie Highway
  • Sashabaw
  • Haggerty
